DEVELOPER/EVANGELIST
ActiveState, The Open Source Languages Company, is seeking a Developer/Evangelist with experience in open source languages and enterprise technologies. The Developer/Evangelist will advocate for and evangelize our open source languages stack, as well as working directly on our universal build system.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this is both a “developer” and an “evangelist” position: we are looking for a developer who can speak to other developers and both communicate the value of our language distros and understand and advocate for enterprise developer needs as a member of the ActiveState Languages Team.

Our open source languages currently include ActivePerl, ActivePython and ActiveTcl, with ActiveGo, ActiveRuby, ActiveNode and ActiveLua to be added in 2017.

The successful candidate is passionate about open source and unyielding in their commitment to seeing ActiveState’s language distributions succeed in enterprise markets. The Developer/Evangelist can be based at ActiveState’s headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, or work remotely.

Responsibilities:

The ActiveState Developer/Evangelist:

Acts as the public face and technology domain expert for ActiveState’s open source languages
Works with the other developers on the Languages Team to improve and extend ActiveState’s universal build system.
Identifies speaking opportunities, responds to CFPs, and speaks at industry events and meetings
Seeks out opportunities—whether in person or online—to evangelize ActiveState’s open source languages, promoting company and product strengths with influencer communities and industry press through technical product demos, conference participation, writing, blogging, webinars, videocasts/podcasts, and more.
Is a thought leader in open source adoption, and pens frequent blog posts and bylines
Builds relationships with key customer, partner, and media influencers
Work with Marketing on open source languages social-media efforts
Collaborates with marketing, product management, and executive leadership on product strategy, roadmaps

Required Skills / Experience:

BA/BS in computer science or engineering
6+ years industry experience working in open source languages and/or high-tech software
Development experience in one or more of the following: Perl, Python, Tcl, Go, Ruby/Rails, Node.js, Lua
Technical evangelism, technical media, and business development experience preferred
Experience writing/blogging for high-tech industry trade media
Public speaking: Industry event “featured speaker” experience preferred
Willing to travel—Must be able to travel unrestricted in North America
Self-starter, high-energy, with ability to execute on technical and business objectives
Ability to multi-task, change priorities rapidly and work under pressure
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
A fun and positive attitude, and a great sense of humor
